The third industrial revolution: a choice between evolution and extinction: Jeremy Rifkin, President of the Foundation on Economic Trends, gave a powerful presentation at the Luxembourg Financial Forum on the Third Industrial Revolution. The attached podcast contains some highlights from a presentation that received the strongest ovation of the day. Rifkin demonstrated that the next phase must be one of decentralised energy management and distributive capitalism, which alone can provide the power to support rising global prosperity without destroying our environment, irreversibly. Rifkin’s Five Pillar Plan, which is already under discussion in Brussels and part or all of which has been adopted unilaterally in several EU states, will pose a challenge to the more centralised members of the Union.

Broadly, the objectives of these two directives are to improve protection for bank account holders and retail investors and to meet the need for new legislative frameworks for alternative investment funds. What impact will the directives have on the Luxembourg financial centre? LFF spoke to Antoine Kremer, the lobbyist who represents the Luxembourg financial centre in Brussels.
